WHO BENEFITED?

Proceeds from this event will help to provide funding necessary to improve, expand and connect trails in our ten-county Genesee Region.

WHO PARTICIPATED?

This was a family-oriented event that people of all ages and abilities will enjoy. All hiking and biking routes are self-guided with special signs along the trails. People could enjoy a leisurely stroll along the beautiful Genesee River, paddling on the River and bike rides along the Genesee River, the Erie Canal and the Genesee Valley Greenway. There was something for everyone.

Each participant will received at check-in a program listing the day’s events and a detailed map of the trails.

DISCOVERY CHALLENGE ON THE TRAILS

Hikers and bikers participated in a discovery challenge. They were given directions to a number of trail sites where you must make specific observations, record them, and report them at the end of the hike or bike tour. Participants who found all the correct “answers” got extra chances for the prize drawings.

SPECIAL OUTRIGGER RACES

Time-trial races in an authentic Hawaiian outrigger canoe were staged all day long. Each 4 to 8-person team practiced paddling the canoe upstream and around the bridge abutment. Then they were timed on how long it took them to return to the starting line.

CANOE AND KAYAK DEMONSTRATIONS

New canoes and kayaks were demonstrated by experts throughout the day. There were also opportunities for individuals, groups and families to test these great water activities.

WILD WINGS SHOW

Meet “Zeus” the golden eagle, “Barf” the turkey vulture and other birds of prey at the Park. Participants learned how these unique animals help the environment and what they can do to protect them.

MUSIC, FOOD AND DISPLAYS

Music was enjoyed while participants had something to eat and visit the displays of local sporting goods stores. There was a variety of outdoor equipment, including boots, bikes and boats. There was also hiking and biking club booths for local trail information.

PRIZE DRAWINGS

At 4:00 PM there were drawings for many door prizes, courtesy of our sponsors. All participants were eligible. The more events they entered, the more chances they had to win. They did not need to be present to win.
