Why Join GRTC?

If you believe that open space and the connectivity created by trails is a positive asset for your community, take an active role in supporting or starting a trail group in your county, city, town or village. Let your community leaders know that trails are a valuable, irreplaceable asset and that by joining the Genesee Region Trails Coalition, they will be taking a big step forward toward creating a truly premier hiking and biking trail system. The goal is to have all trail groups, biking groups, trail user groups, municipalities, large and small businesses and "friends of trails" join and support the Coalition. If your community has not joined yet, call your mayor or town supervisor and ask them to join now and take an active role in the development of trails in your community.

The Coalition will apply for grants and help coordinate trails fund raising efforts on a regional basis, reaching over one million residents and thousands of businesses, thereby creating a potentially more efficient means of raising the resources needed to make this one of the best areas in America for hiking and biking.

Fortuitously, the Genesee Transportation Council (GTC), a state agency responsible for identifying and planning for the future transportation needs of the Greater Rochester Area, recently announced an initiative to make the trail system in our region one of the best in the U.S. Right now they are in the process of finalizing a master plan for regional trails that recommends the types of linkages and trail development that the Coalition envisions. The Coalition hopes to work closely with GTC to help realize this trails plan that will provide numerous quality of life benefits for the region.
