TheGenesee Region Trails Coalition is an organization whose mission is to help local communities develop and maintain a regional system of multi-use trails and promote responsible trail usage as a healthy and inexpensive recreational opportunity for all seasons. The geographic area covered by the Coalition includes the counties of Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates.

In fulfillment of its mission to lead a regional effort to support the development, maintenance and linkage of trails, greenways, open space, linear parks and other public access recreational facilities, the Coalition will organize events and programs with three primary objectives in mind:

  1. To educate and encourage the public to enjoy the enhanced quality of life and health benefits that result from recreational pursuits such as hiking, biking and cross-country skiing in safe and aesthetically pleasing outdoor settings
  2. To obtain funding for the Coalition's operations in support of planning, coordination and other public outreach purposes
  3. To direct funding to deserving member groups whose purpose is to develop and maintain trails and greenways in the Genesee Region. (Look under Resources for Grant information.)

The Coalition will apply for grants and help coordinate trails fund raising efforts on a regional basis, reaching over one million residents and thousands of businesses, thereby creating a potentially more efficient means of raising the resources need to make this one of the best areas in America for hiking and biking.
